We have been camping for years, the one thing I don’t like is dealing with insects and rodents, so I’ve put together a list of things that either I have used or others have two help combat this problem.

If you sitting out by the campfire an effective way to deal with mosquitoes is to burn some sage on the fire. Mosquitoes and other insects don’t care for the smell and it helps keep them away. If you decide to go out walking trails then you will also run into these insects and of course, this plenty of sprays out there you can use that are pretty effective I do like to use hundred percent DEET it works very well especially with tics. I do however prefer to put it on my closing and not directly on my skin.

Another effective way to deal with insects especially inside the camper, his Pine-Sol smells good you can use it for cleaning and it doubles as an insect repellent. Now if we step back outside for a minute sometimes you have to do some maintenance on your water heater and unfortunately some bees seem to like to make nests in their one way to combat this is to use a flea and tick collar you would normally use on your pet cut into small pieces place it in the water heater compartment and that should help cut down the chances of a bee making a nest.

Now a common rodent problem for campers and RVs his mice and a great way to combat them is using peppermint oil. You can put the peppermint oil on cotton balls and put it in different areas throughout your camper, however, I do caution how much you use because it is very strong and if you use too much you could be a deterrent for you as well. Another thing you can use to help with mice problems, especially for long-term storage, is dryer sheets. Irish Spring soap can also be a deterrent for mice so if you don’t use this type of soap maybe give it a try if it works for you as a soap it could have a dual purpose in helping to keep mice out of your RV.

Now none of these are going to be the end all problem solvers for rodents or insect but this certainly should help cut down on the issue I provided links to each of these items to can check them out for yourself.
